"It is increasingly incumbent upon purchasing professionals to take the lead in any effort to evaluate and revise the procurement system under which they operate. It is the duty of the purchasing professional to insure that any changes are made for the better, not simply for the sake of change."
- NIGP, Public Procurement Management, Part 1
The Legislative Committee provides VAGP members with updates of current and pending legislation effecting public purchasing in the Commonwealth. In addition, the Committee seeks to develop partnerships with other organizations whose purpose is to protect and promote the exercise of responsible governmental practices.
Each year the Legislative Committee tracks a number of bills through the General Assembly, advising the VAGP Board of Directors and informing VAGP members of those bills enacted into law. The Committee has developed a partnership with the Virginia Municipal League in an effort to increase our awareness of proposed legislation and participate in the process of addressing procurement-related legislative issues before they are brought before the Assembly. Likewise, we endeavor to increase the awareness of legislators in the Senate and House regarding the professionalism with which public procurement is accomplished in Virginia.
